Understanding the Medicare Advantage Plan

Whether you are interested in Medicare Advantage Plans or not, it is important to understand how they work. For most of us, we understand that a car insurance policy is only as good as the driver. In the same way, our Medicare plans must meet certain standards before we are allowed to receive benefits. The first thing you need to do is be a policyholder at least one month prior to your initial application. If you have been a policyholder for more than 30 days, you will not be eligible to participate in the program. If you don’t make it past this initial step, the next step is to enroll in a Medicare Advantage Plan.

To get enrolled, the first step is to complete an initial application. This is the standard application form. You can get a copy of the form from your state’s Department of Health and Human Services. Even if you have already been enrolled, this form is still required as part of the enrollment process.¬†Also, you will need to complete an enrollment card which is sent out to you by your insurer and will identify potential plan participants. The card will also let you know what benefits are available to you, the fees associated with that coverage, and any other information that might be helpful to you. This is also a good time to review the benefits section and make sure you understand them.

Once you have completed this initial application and enrollment card, you will need to submit proof of current coverage. In the Medicare Advantage Plan state you reside in, you will be asked to provide proof of current coverage. The proof can come in many forms, such as a copy of your current health insurance card, a letter from your current carrier, or even your own bank statement. You may even want to provide your policy papers. Once you have your policy papers in hand, you can request a Medicare Supplement Cover D to the policy. This will allow you to receive the benefit of Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) services at a discounted rate. You can request this by filling out a separate request form and getting it to your carrier, or by sending it directly to them.

Once you have received your coverage, you can then start to pay premiums. As with all types of insurance, you will be responsible for any claims that are submitted through the network of providers that your policy covers. The advantage of Medicare Advantage Plans is that they offer a wider range of services than traditional health insurance policies.Just like any other type of insurance, there are many types of plans available, all with their own benefits and risks. Regardless of your needs or your financial situation, there is a Medicare Advantage Plan that will meet your needs.
